Colorectal and General Surgeon
Dr Murtaza Jamnagerwalla is a highly experienced General and Colorectal Surgeon practicing in Sydney’s south. He specializes in both emergency and elective general and colorectal surgical procedures using minimally invasive (“keyhole”) surgical techniques.
Born in Nottingham, United Kingdom, Dr Jamnagerwalla moved to Australia with his family and since pre-school years, has been raised and schooled in the St. George and Sutherland area. He undertook his undergraduate Medical Degree at the University of New South Wales and completed both his basic and advanced surgical training through the St. George Hospital network. He was one of the few trainees to complete a year of his surgical training in the United Kingdom at Colchester General Hospital, an internationally renowned hospital that pioneered laparoscopic “keyhole” colorectal surgery in the UK and abroad. He obtained his Surgical Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and went on to complete his sub-speciality training in colorectal surgery through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). His first sub-speciality fellowship year was at St. Marks Hospital in London, a prestigious and internationally recognised tertiary referral hospital for complex colorectal conditions across the UK and the world. His second sub-specialty year was at Box Hill Hospital in Melbourne, the largest colorectal unit in Australia, specializing in high volume laparoscopic colorectal procedures.
Dr Jamnagerwalla is involved in the teaching of both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate surgical trainees. He is a Conjoint Lecturer with the University of New South Wales. He operates at The Sutherland Hospital, Kareena Private Hospital, Kingsway Day Surgery and St. George Private Hospital in Sydney’s south and has returned to the area to reside with his family and enjoy the lifestyle the Sutherland Shire offers.
