Fees and Payment

There are fees involved for seeing a specialist. These include the initial consultation fee, follow-up consultations, and procedure / operation fees. First follow-up postoperative consultations are not charged. You will receive a rebate from Medicare for a portion of any consultation fee. Our reception staff can process this rebate for you directly if all your details are registered with Medicare. Private health funds do not cover any portion of consultation fees. Pensioners are charged a reduced rate for all consultations.

Out of pocket expenses (“Gaps”)

A “gap” is an out-of-pocket expense incurred for operations. Gaps are charged due to lack of Medicare to adjust their rebates to surgeons for procedures in line with inflation and rising Practice costs. Southside Surgical does not charge gaps for gastroscopies and colonoscopies performed in any Private Hospital or Day Surgery facility. All operations performed at Private Hospitals or Day Surgery centres will incur a gap, which will be advised by our staff following your consultation with Dr Jamnagerwalla. For those patients without current private health insurance, there is no out of pocket expense if your procedure is performed at Sutherland Hospital, however you will be required to serve the wait-time appropriate to your procedure as enforced by NSW Health.

Billing for Consultations and Surgery

All fees for consultations are to be paid on the same day after your consultation with Dr Jamnagerwalla. Fees for operations must be paid in advance no later than one week prior to your date of surgery.
